Tomorrow, I will have Korean Class and the Sunbae-nim promised to held a quiz. That is why I post series of Korean Lesson tonight. While posting this, I am memorizing plus understanding, enjoy :)
한글 = Korean Font/Letter
Korean letter consist of two kinds of letter, with additional letter on each of them.
1. Vowels and additional vowels
2. Consonants and additional consonants
Before I write the letters, I would like to note you that you must remember the order of the letters, just like you remember letters A to Z, so when you will look at the dictionary, you could find the words.
1. VOWELS
A. Main vowels consists of 10 letters
Letter : Pronunciation
1. ㅏ : A
2. ㅑ : YA
3. ㅓ : EO
4. ㅕ : YEO
5. ㅗ : O
6. ㅛ : YO
7. ㅜ : U
8. ㅠ : YU
9. ㅡ : EU

B. Additional vowels consists of 11 letters
1. ㅐ : AE
2. ㅒ : YAE
3. ㅔ : E
4. ㅖ : YE
5. ㅘ : WA
6. ㅙ : WAE
7. ㅚ : WE
8. ㅝ : WO
9. ㅞ : WE
10. ㅟ : WI

2. CONSONANTS
A. Main consonants consists of 14 letters

5. ㅁ [mieum] : m
6. ㅂ [bieup] : b;p

12. ㅌ [thieut] : th

Well, pronunciation in korean is really depended on the word.
But generally you can remember the name of letters to make you easier to decide whether pronunciation you should pronounce.
For example:
Remember ㄱ [gieok]. If the letter located in the front you pronounce it as “g”, but if it is on the back, you pronounce it as “k”. But it is not absolute, it really depend on the word.
학 교 = Hak Gyo = School
학 = the gieok located on the back, so you pronounce it as “k” in “HAK”
교 = the gieok located in the front, so you pronounce it as “g” in “GYO”
B. Additional consonants consists of 5 letters
Letter [ Name of letter] : Pronunciation
1. ㄲ [ssang gieok] : kk
2. ㄸ [ssang digeut] : tt
3. ㅃ [ssang bieup] : pp
4. ㅆ [ssang siot] : ss
5. ㅉ [ssang jieut] : cc
Korean syllable consist at least 2 letters, vowel and consonant. But most of the consist of 3 or 4 letters.
Syllable examples:
2 letters : 가
3 letters : 달
4 letters : 밝
